Photos: Adjusting the valves on the moped "Alpha"

Adjusting the valves is probably the easiest and at the same time a very important job of servicing your moped's engine. Run which is able to almost any novice driver. If you do this work on your own, you save your money and time, moreover, you completely control the quality of the work done from the beginning to the end.

Timely performance of work on the adjustment of valve clearances can significantly extend the life of the engine of your moped and increase its overall reliability as a whole.

The first adjustment is desirable to make immediately after the purchase of a new or even purchased moped, the second adjustment is made immediately after running, all subsequent after 4000 km of run.

Before starting the adjustment, let the engine cool down if you have had time to work before it, the engine temperature before adjustment should ideally be 18-25 degrees.

A plain flat screwdriver on the left side of the engine, unscrew the two plugs on the generator cover (marked with arrows) and remove the camshaft cover from the cylinder head (marked with an arrow).

We insert the socket wrench into the central hole and turn the crankshaft of the engine in the course of the rotation until there is a risk in the top viewing window of the generator cover, next to which the letter “T” is stamped (do not confuse with the letter “F”!) you should be strictly in the center of the viewing window.

After the “T” mark in the viewing window takes the desired position, we check the position of the marks on the camshaft and the cylinder head housing (the marks are marked with arrows). The marks on the camshaft and cylinder head should be as close as possible to each other. If the marks do not match - turn the crankshaft one more turn and again check the convergence of the marks on the camshaft and the upper viewing window of the generator cover.

After all the tags you match - unscrew the two plugs on the cylinder head: one on top and one on the bottom, under which there are adjusting elements.

We take a probe with a thickness of 0.05 mm and insert it between the adjusting bolt and the valve, tighten the adjusting bolt so that the probe moves between the valve and the bolt with a little effort, fix the adjusting bolt from turning and tighten the locknut with pliers. After tightening the lock nut, re-insert the gauge and check what we did (if necessary, we repeat everything again). Do the same with the second valve.

After all that has been done, we check that the ignition is turned off and crank the engine several times with the kickstarter (the engine cannot be started at this moment!). After turning the engine over - we combine the risks in the window of the generator and camshaft, and once again check the correctness of the thermal gaps, if necessary, adjust them again.
